"Some day, after we have mastered the winds, the waves, the tides and gravity we shall harness the energies of love. Then, for the second time in the history of the world, man will have discovered fire."
- Teilhard de Chardin
Julie Gengo, R.Y.T.

Born and raised in fabulous New York City, Julie Gengo has been immersed in yoga for over ten years. With a background in dance and eastern philosophies and a strong connection to Mother Earth, it was only natural that yoga would become her path.

Since taking her first yoga class in NYC back in the early 1990’s, Julie has since gone on to study with the best. After teaching private sessions and informal classes to female surfers, skateboarders and snowboarders, that supplemented her decade long career as an action sports journalist, she decided to get her teaching certification through the Institute of Progressive therapies (IPT) in San Diego, California and has since completed numerous trainings with Shiva Rea in L.A. and around the world. Julie has also assisted Shiva in her classes and during the 2004 Yoga Journal Conference in San Francisco. In addition, Julie has received her children’s teaching certification through Indigo Yoga for Children teacher training and Trance Dance Yoga certification as taught by Shiva Rea. Some of her other teachers include Sharon Gannon, David Life, Tim Miller, Desikachar and Eric Shiffman.

Julie also teaches Yoga Flow for Kids, Prenatal Yoga and a Therapeutic Flow. She regularly holds workshops and leads retreats in exotic locations. In 2004, Julie began leading Yoga Trance Dance events in her community of Encinitas, California where the yogis are hip to the beat.

YogaBlu is named after Julie’s daughter Blü. The two share a home with two cats, one hamster, and a lot of pretty flowers in the garden.

"Listen to the principles of yoga. By practicing these you can break through the bonds of karma. On this path effort never goes to waste, and there is not failure. Even a little effort toward spiritual awareness will protect you from the greatest fear. Those who follow this path, resolving deep within themselves to seek Me alone, attain singleness of purpose. For those who lack resolution, the decisions of life are many--branched and endless."

-Bhagavad Gita 2:39-41
